Yes, I'm a weird "medievalist" in real life, and yes, I have multiple game folders and had them for a long time. As I've mentioned, I love CC and custom worlds, so I tend to have a lot of (way too much) stuff in my game. I have now, finally, time to use my new PC bought just for gaming, and it works like magic, the weather allows me to stay indoors (it's raining and so dark outside), and I also happen to have a day off from work, which hasn't happened for years, because I've been studying and always had things to do instead of relaxing. Ah. Oh, back to the point.
So obviously I have to have medieval stuff in my game. I like The Sims Medieval, though it really has a little to do with medieval times, but it's not the Sims 3 with all it's abilities. I still really don't know what I'm going to do with the medieval stuff, I just have to have them. And it's a pain to have all EPs, SPs, Store and webfull of CC in the game, so something has to be done. In case you're not aware, this is how it happens: The Game Folder
You have a game folder in your Document files called The Sims 3. That's where you store (the game stores) your save files, saved sims, mods, exports and whatnot. If you take that file out (or just rename it, say The Sims 3 original) and launch the game, the game will create a new folder that's empty of your previous stuff. If you have some corrupted CC they may appear in the new game, though. (I have one lot that I haven't downloaded at all, but it keeps appearing anyway, everywhere.) You might have to install Store content again, but you don't have to download them again from the site, because you have them in the original game folder.
Now you have two game folders, the renamed original as "The Sims 3 original" and the new "The Sims 3" folder. The game uses _The Sims 3_folder (without the underscores), so when you want to use the original, you will have to rename the other file, "The Sims 3" to something else, like "The Sims 3 medievalish" and then rename the "The Sims 3 original" to _The Sims 3_ for the game to open it. It's not difficult when you get it, just remember which folder is which. I've had four folders with no specific theme, just numbers, and I got a little lost with them.
As lovely ciane mentioned on the official forums, you could only have a folder in your Mods folder with the themed CC and take it out when you don't use it (renaming won't work here), and just remember to put it back when you want to use the save file you use with that stuff. I doubt I would forget to do that and corrupt my save files, and I also like to minimize the amount of unrelevant stuff in game, so I use completely separate game folder. ciane also mentioned that if you use CCleaner it might clear double files. I use it and haven't yet noticed anything, but I have to dig upon that a little more. That would be terrible and spoil the whole idea!
The Sims 3 Medievalish EP
Since we haven't gotten more medieval(ish) stuff than some Store sets, we have to rely on the lovely and hardworking CC makers in the community. After years I still haven't figured how they do it (technically or time wise), so I have a huge respect for them. I owe my whole gaming experience to them (and EA of course), and even EA has to admit that they keep the game alive. So here's my dump of sources I have used to create my medievalish, a little fantasy experience! (To be severely continued)
